McLane
GAR Post #50 was formed in Perquimans County in 1893. It was named for Sgt.
James J. McLane. John Chappell served
as the original Commander of the post, which met in Belvidere, Dwight, and
Tyner, NC, during its 17 years of existence. In 1894, the post reported a
membership of 17. The post continued to operate through 1909 or later. All of
the members served in the 1st Union NC, Co. E. John Chappel and
Frederick Smith were the key leaders. |
