The 1st Loyal Eastern Virginia Volunteers were formed in the Portsmouth and Great Bridge areas of tidewater Virginia in late 1863. They served in detachments on the Eastern Shore area of Virginia during most of the unit’s existence. Members of this unit were mustered out of service on 1 Dec 1865 at Fort Monroe.
