 Dr.
Thomas Horsley and author John Hinds hold a thirty-two pound solid shot found
on Dr. Horsley’s property. Dr. Horsley’s house is built on the site of Fort
Cobb. John Hinds has written two books on the exploits of Lt. Charles Flusser
leading up to his encounter with the CSS Albemarle. Flusser was commander of
the USS Commodore Perry during the battle of Elizabeth City. The actions of
Flusser in the battle are covered in “Invasion and Conquest of
North Carolina: Anatomy of a Gunboat War ” by John W. Hinds.
